Fitzroy Valley District High School
This project comprised 8 separate independent structures interlinked by a common walkway. Structures are a mix of classroom blocks, library, administration block, mechanical and cooking workshops and a performing arts building.
Located at Fitzroy Valley, Pritchard Francis identified early in the design phase what materials and type of construction were ideal for the location, and availably of local materials and skilled labour in the area.
The site presented a challenging environment for excavation and stormwater mitigation. A solution balancing the trenching in rock and imported fill provided the foundation for efficient and economical construction on site.
The ultimate structures comprised of slabs on ground with structural steel frames (columns, rafters and window heads). Stud walls in filled between the steel frames. Exposed primary steel members were hot dipped galvanised for protection and maintenance requirements. This approach provided fast, simple and efficient construction on site.
