Hay Street Underpass
Pritchard Francis was appointed directly for this project based upon success elsewhere. A myriad of underground services, a high water table and high traffic volume rendered this a complex and difficult project.
Following detailed planning and costing, Hay Street was closed on a Friday, the tunnel completed over the weekend and Hay Street re-opened for traffic on Monday.
The design involved sophisticated prestressing and ground anchors to control water ingress and buoyancy.
Pritchard Francis managed the works, which was brought in on time and budget, during a brief window of opportunity in the winter of 1993.
