Scotch College

Pritchard Francis has had a role in the development of this privately owned school over many years.

Various projects include the following:

Scotch College Auditorium ($5.5m)

This new auditorium for school performances was designed as a centre piece building for the school and was constructed on top of an existing building.  The existing building was built with a prestressed concrete roof, the top of which was utilised as a gathering space and play area.  With the addition of a new roof this external space was converted into the auditorium.

The building incorporated stage lighting structures and suspended catwalks.  Due to surrounding buildings and an adjacent outdoor swimming pool, access and buildability were major considerations.

Scotch College Lecture theatre

Additions and renovations to this 30 year old school theatre to create 150 seat theatre workshop space with associated Green Room, rehearsal space and foyer.  The facility provides the college with a flexible learning space, catering for small scale drama and music productions.

Scotch College Boarding Village ($5m)

This boarding village was partially built over an old dumping area and involved extensive ground improvement work prior to construction.

With very tight budget constraints and with real deadlines to meet, alternative construction methods were investigated during the design phase, including precast floor and prefabricated roof systems.  Cast in-situ concrete suspended floors, with load bearing brickwork and timber roof trusses, provided the best solution for the project.

Science, Design & Technology Centre ($13.0m)

This project comprised of a split level three and two storey building 67m long x 30m wide, cut into the side of a 3.5m high oval embankment bridging the space between an existing chapel and design and technology building.  Various cladding systems were utilised throughout the building facade including brickwork, bricksnaps, curtin glazing, concrete pre-cast panels and glass blocks.
