Telstra SEA-ME-WE3

Pritchard Francis has provided specialised civil and structural consulting services to Telstra for many years on a range of buildings, structures and civil works.

Major recent projects include design, documentation and construction assistance for the SEA-ME-WE3 optic fibre cable system project at the Australian end of the 40,000 km run from Germany. Many months of intensive work were involved in the establishment of a dedicated underground facility from the Perth CBD through the City of Subiaco and the Town of Cambridge to just off Floreat Beach. Locating and plotting other underground services, tunnelling under busy roads, preservation of major trees and many other obstacles were overcome during this exercise.

As a separate but related part of this project, Pritchard Francis managed the ‘shore landing’ part of this contract which involved directional drilling under the sea bed up to 1km offshore and back inland through sensitive sand dunes to manholes on the east side of West Coast Highway.

Successful completion of these commissions resulted in the appointment of Pritchard Francis to undertake a similar commission overseas.

Pritchard Francis have had a longstanding involvement in the Telecommunication area, including the design and documentation of Telstra CCB's, concentrated communications buildings and other exchange and communication buildings. Experience with towers and high mast structures include pylon signs for major shopping centres, analysis of existing stacks for earthquake loads, lookout towers and major lighting towers. Pritchard Francis has a four dimensional computer analysis programs capable of analysing structural frames for static and dynamic loading conditions.
