  • Due to the age and work activities on site there were areas of contamination that would have required removal and replacement of the material. The extent and risk of the contamination was calculated, after analysis and liaising with the auditor it was agreed that some of the material could be left on site and have no effect on the property or people, provided it was treated correctly.
  • The material was encapsulated, logged and set 1.5m below the finished surface. This saved on dumping costs and replacement of the material which was very cost effective.

The Dulux project in O’Connor is a 3.2ha site that was formerly the Dulux paint site used for storing, mixing and distributing paints to stores. Sheds and buildings on site were primarily built of asbestos, and outlying areas had traces of contaminates such as lead and other chemicals both underneath the slabs and in the surrounding ground.

Remediation and demolition works were carried out prior to the site being developed and leveled to create 16 green title commercial lots.

Works were completed in accordance with the developer’s requirements, meeting adjoining owners' conditions and tying in with surrounding constraints.
