Pritchard Francis was contracted by McConnell Dowell as the Lead Consultant for BHP’s Mooka – Workshops OCRS Buildings and Industrial Facilities. As the Lead Consultant, Pritchard Francis was responsible for the management of all sub consultants involved in the project. In addition to the coordination role, the Pritchard Francis team also provided architectural, structural and civil engineering services and ultimately produced a fully integrated 3D model for the entire project.

The project consists of an Ore Car Repair Shop (OCRS) constructed at a site located at Mooka Siding, located approximately 33 kilometres south of Port Hedland in the Pilbara region in Western Australia.

The on site developments include an 11,000m2 workshop featuring a two storey internal office and rail entry and exit, an 1,600m2 air-conditioned warehouse, over 15,000m2 of sealed hardstand and several ancillary buildings.

The project involved the construction of an automated repair line serviced by automatically guided vehicles (AGV) and required extensive coordination with the workshop equipment supplier.

The state of the art facility will be used to repair BHP’s iron ore cars in the region at a capacity of 36 per day.
