Stage 1 of this new Senior High School consisted of five buildings, 3 x single storey and 2 x double storeys.  The project includes an administration/learning centre, science, performing arts, library, cafe, health & physical education and a food, textiles & materials building.

The double storey buildings utilised a concrete flat plate slab supported on concrete columns with a braced frame steelwork roof structure. Lateral stability was achieved via virtue of wall bracing to the 1st floor and concrete frame action between the concrete columns and the suspended slab for the ground floor.

The Performing Arts and Health & Physical Education buildings utilised coloured concrete panels with a braced roof structure.  The other buildings are single storey which utilised steel braced frame with infill glazing. The 1st floor wall facade to the double storey buildings have been expressed architecturally and “V” shaped precast concrete columns which support the balconies have been utilised for aesthetic reasons.

Civil works consisted of bulk earthworks, car parking for 120 cars, playing fields for football, cricket, rugby, soccer and hockey and hard courts for basketball, tennis and netball. Stormwater drainage required design of a system that would accommodate a 100 year storm 24 hour which is stored and disposed of on site.

Sustainable water practices were incorporated into the design, including the capture and recycling of all roof stormwater for use as non-potable water for flushing toilets and garden watering.  A feature of the stormwater design was the creation of a 700m2 sustainable wetlands – which is to be incorporated into the school curriculum.
