Wearne Hostel for the Aged
- Utilised prefabricated gangnail trusses for cost and time saving properties
Pritchard Francis was engaged for structural engineering consultancy services for a new 30 bed extension to the existing heritage listed facility dating back to 1902 and located in a coastal environment in Cottesloe. Being only metres from the beach, close attention was required to the new structures durability specifications.
Working within an existing operating facility meant that during design Pritchard Francis paid close attention to areas of the existing structure where extensions or modifications were required. This approach ensured that the design documentation produced accurately portrayed the site conditions exposed by the Contractor on site.
The nomination to utilise prefabricated gangnail trusses for the majority of the new 30 bed extension presented a cost and time efficient solution to the project, which is now an 86 bed facility.
