As part of the East Kimberly Development Package [EKDP] the existing Kununurra Hospital was expanded with the construction of a 2,000m2 Integrated Primary Health Care Facility. This expansion allows for primary health and general practice services, including child and maternal health, chronic disease prevention and management, health promotion and community mental health, and clinical education and training facilities.

Pritchard Francis was responsible for the civil and structural engineering components of the extension, including a single storey office and clinical facility with new service road and associate carparking.

Due to the regional location, it was imperative that onsite labour was controlled and reduced. A lightweight stud framing solution was progressed within a structural frame. Due to the condensation issues of these type of structures the building was designed to be fully sealed with the addition of an interstitial ceiling design for increased insulation.

The civil design integrated the new building into the existing surroundings by maintaining existing Boab tree clusters. Relatively flat swales were formed to move water away from buildings and carparks while maintaining disabled access.
