A landmark quality product for Karratha, the Hilton Karratha project incorporated the requirements of a quality design, while feasibility required it to be designed to be built in a fast, cost effective manner.

Numerous construction methodologies were considered for the development including insitu concrete, lightweight insitu construction and modular construction.

Following extensive price testing in conjunction with an ECI contractor, a CIMC modular solution was selected for this five storey hotel. The CIMC product allowed a fast, cost effective product incorporating an expressive façade.

Once this methodology was selected, Pritchard Francis worked closely with the modular suppliers’ requirements to understand the underlying reasons for some of the stated product requirements.

By challenging certain assumptions and identifying product strengths which were previously underutilised, Pritchard Francis produced a reduced cost of the foundation design by hundreds of thousands of dollars. Completely eliminating the requirement to pile to rock and allowing a traditional pad footing solution.

Civil works included the provision of a stormwater management plan to the City of Karratha requirements to support the development application. Working closely with the architect through careful assessment of stormwater overland flow paths, in ground stormwater drainage site levels were set to maximise pedestrian interaction to the al fresco areas and adjacent public open space. Road works included upgrades to Barlow Lane, main hotel pick up, drop off and service yard.
