- Innovative timber roof truss solution, including cantilever awnings, access walkways, services and skylights.
- Permanent needle and prop solution allowed ground floor walls throughout to be removed without temporary propping.

- The roof for the Mental Health Facility was designed as timber framed whilst maintaining the architectural expression of the form. This initiative saved over $500,000 compared to the budgeted steel roof.
This $100M redevelopment involved extensive renovations to the existing hospital as well as the addition of new wards and a stand-alone Mental Health Facility. As a large scale modern health project, critical issues such as staging, access for services, aesthetics, safety, flexibility and costs were critical.
Pritchard Francis worked closely with the design team to ensure that the right solution was provided throughout the project. Rather than delivering a “blanket” solution, the structural systems were tailored to suit the specific requirements of each stage. This resulted in a variety of building systems being implemented; varying from the steel framed HDU and Medical Wards Building, to the 3 storey reinforced concrete Wards and Theatres Block and the timber framed Mental Health Building.
Providing tailored solutions not only provided the most cost effective result, but also allowed the architect to create an interesting and uplifting space whilst accommodating the significant servicing requirements of a hospital development.
