The Specialist Medical Centre, St John of God Wembley Day Surgery, is located on Cambridge Street in Wembley, opposite St John of God Hospital in Subiaco. This four-storey mixed use development is equipped with three state of the art operating theatres on the first floor and two levels of basement parking.  With the ability to have up to eight patients stay overnight the centre is a customised facility dedicated to day surgical work.

Bateman Architects engaged Pritchard Francis to carry out the structural design, documentation and contract administration for this six storey development.

The building comprises insitu concrete columns, lift shaft, slabs and walls, precast concrete columns and walls, and steelwork façade and roof structures.  Precast wall panels and columns were utilized above ground level to suit the architectural requirements and accelerate the construction programme.  Steelwork was also used for the façade and canopy structures to provide a solution to support the high quality wall elements to this building, the structure was fully documented in Revit.

Pritchard Francis worked closely with the architects to provide efficient structural solutions to the complicated ground floor and basement ramp arrangements and the various façade elements.  Strict control to the contiguous boundary piling and special detailing considerations were implemented to provide the right solution for constructing adjacent to the existing buildings.  The ground floor suspended slab was also designed for minimal vibration to meet the requirements of the sensitive medical equipment located on this floor.

A successful structure was designed and detailed to provide an efficient solution which met all of the architectural requirements throughout this project.
