Along with our design team partners, Pritchard Francis provided the structural solution for this $5.15M Design and Construct project to provide a new sports and Recreation Centre near Byford. The striking design met the clients exact brief and demanding budget. The centre was phase 1 of the overall development and includes spectator areas, two sports halls with a third ‘extreme sports hall’ that houses, amongst other facilities, a world class climbing wall, gymnasiums, a café, crèche facilities, administration, dance hall and stage area along with extensive external parking. The design had to take full cognisance of the future Phase 2 which was to provide an aquatic centre linked to the existing building.

The design identified tilt up panels at the lower level with cladding above as the most economical solution. The clients desire to minimise running costs meant giving close consideration to both natural lighting and ventilation. The building adopts a number of ‘green’ techniques including a recycling system to enable grey water to be used in the landscaped areas. The use of pulastic flooring and internal finishes give the whole centre a light and airy feel whilst limiting the transfer of air borne noise.
